Hello there! I'm Sister Diane and I have two grand passions: making crafts and making media. That's what I write about here, and sometimes, I get all thoughtful about internet culture and creative small businesses. Thanks for stopping by! Would you like some tea?

DIY, Portland

. . . Since we’re on the subject of DIY this week, I’d like to share something delightful with you all.

I mentioned DIY, Portland a while back. It’s one of my favorite podcasts ever, covering all kinds of aspects of DIY culture here in my favorite city. And it’s a great listen even if you don’t live in P-Town.

DIY, Portland is the creation of Julie Sabatier, a local multimedia journalist. (That’s her above, and I’m a huge fan.)

. . . So definitely check out most recent DIY, Portland episode, which is titled, “What is DIY?” (This also happens to be DIY, Portland’s first anniversary show.) In it, Julie asks people all over town this question, and collects a fascinating array of responses. She’s even brave enough to stand in front of one of our local big-box retailers, asking people to define DIY. The results there are hilarious and revealing.

If you like this podcast, then you’ll also like past shows. Some of my favorites involve crafts and politics, artist collectives, and independent publishing.

You can find the podcast via iTunes, or on the web.

You can also read an interview with Julie here.
