Just thought I’d share the recent fruit of my ongoing spool-knitting mania. From left to right:
- A five-nail cord, with two different colors of thin, thin wool knitted together. I like the mottled effect, but wasn’t as crazy about how the fuzziness of the yarn hid the structure of the knitting.
- In the center, a cord made on just three nails. Much thinner and nicer for trim and jewelry use, in my opinion.
- And at right, I was playing with a four-nail spool, threading half of it with one color and half with another. This resulted in a striped cord that I really like. The section of the sample you see here was where I got to playing with switching the location of the colors as I knitted. If this were executed with more precision, it could be something fairly keen.
- Also, and not pictured, I played with threading my five-nail spool with two strands of perle cotton floss at once. It was hard going – in fact, I bent my tiny crochet hook trying to pull the loops – but the resulting cord is very sturdy and not too stretchy. Perfect for some short handles on a cute handbag.
. . . But that’s all the spooling for the moment. The sun is out today, and like everyone else in this town, I’m heading out to remember what the world looks like with light! Hope you’re having a super-creative weekend!
