Hello there! I'm Sister Diane and I have two grand passions: making crafts and making media. That's what I write about here, and sometimes, I get all thoughtful about internet culture and creative small businesses. Thanks for stopping by! Would you like some tea?

Growing Things in Second Life

As we head into gardening season, I’ll be posting from time to time about my planting adventures. I’m so excited that the trees have just started to bloom here in PDX, but we’re still weeks away from the proper time to buy and worship plants.

. . . Except in Second Life, where it’s always growing season. I just discovered a wonderful kind of garden/plant nursery there, called Sapphos Garden, where I was able to find all kinds of plants for my new virtual garden. Most of these plants are created by the wickedly talented Pie Psaltery.

The total disregard for USDA zones and seasonality is pretty heady stuff — in Second Life, you can literally grow anything, anytime, anywhere.

You can even get trees! And cacti!

. . . So I’m gleefully sticking virtual plants into the virtual ground, while outside it’s still cold and grey. I’ll reveal the finished paradise soon.

If you’re an SL-er, you can find Sapphos Garden at 53, 74, 30.
