Hello there! I'm Sister Diane and I have two grand passions: making crafts and making media. That's what I write about here, and sometimes, I get all thoughtful about internet culture and creative small businesses. Thanks for stopping by! Would you like some tea?

March Church of Craft!

. . . Has a month really transpired since the February Church of Craft?

Well, we were back at it on Sunday. The theme this time was Envelope Books.

We based our explorations on three envelope book designs. I’ll provide links to how to make each one below, and show some of the fantastic stuff that emerged from the group.

First, we made accordion envelope books. (Here’s a nice tutorial from Paper Source.)

Jill made hers from envelopes she’d created from wallpaper scraps. Look how pretty!

Here’s one that was made to hang on the wall, and organize seed packets. Look at the cool beaded-fringe trim on the bottom!

Here’s Maggie’s book, all closed, with embellishments on front and back. How much do I love those button flowers?

Here’s even another cute use of buttons….

..And this one has a nice embroidered buttonhole.

Next, came a little folded envelope book with a simple stitched binding. (I really like this tutorial from Scraps of Life.)

Here’s a sweet one made from air-mail envelopes, and a cool one that binds several sizes and colors of envelopes together.

Terry made this one from envelopes she’d saved out of her junk mail. Talk about transforming reclaimed materials!

And this one is Melissa’s. She’s something of a papercraft rock-star. These where plain white envelopes when she started.

And lastly, we made some organizer-style books from coin envelopes. Although, I’m really excited about making these from full-sized envelopes, too. It’s a variant on this tutorial by Susan Wilken.

I love this one, which opens up to reveal those lovely pink envelopes, above.

This one is very sweet, too.

Whew! As always, an incredible craft-fest.
