Woo-Wee! Yesterday, DIY Alert co-hosted a big Craft Supply Swap with The 100th Monkey Studio. And wasn’t that fun?
The deal was: everyone brought some art or craft supplies that they weren’t using anymore. Our brave volunteers sorted them into categories, and set them out on tables all over the studio. Then, people wandered from room to room, filling bags with unbelievable crafty bounty. Everything was free for the taking.

It is unbelievable how much fabulous stuff we all have sitting in our stashes, unused, that would be just the thing for someone else’s project. Every person who came, found treasure. And highly-desirable materials were walking in the door all the way to the end.

We had a bead table, a paper table, and a fiber & fabric room (most popular spot all day). And this was the Miscellaneous Room, where all the uncategorizable things went (the most intriguing spot all day.)
It’s so funny, how many people came in saying, “I don’t need any more stuff. I’m just going to look around, but I’m not taking anything.” And within minutes, people were saying “OOh! What’s THAT?”

Oh – and we had craft tables all day as well – a nice place to hang out and make something while waiting for more good supplies to accumulate.
At the end of the day, we still had an impressive amount of material, most of which will be donated to Outside In. The 100th Monkey Studio was a wonderful space for this event — if you’re local, definitely check it out. It’s a community space where anyone can come and make art, or take classes, or browse their cute store. Very colorful and fun.
I’ll post about our awesome volunteers, and a picture of my own haul, later today.
