August Church of Craft; Farewell to Rimsky’s

Yesterday was something of an end-of-an-era. We had our last Church of Craft meeting at the beloved Rimsky-Korsakoffee House. As of next month, we’ll be at our new home, Central Library downtown. I’ll miss the charm of Rimsky’s so much — we’ve been there for three years! But, Church of Craft has just grown too large for the space, and it’s time to evolve to whatever it’s going to be next.

What was nice about this meeting, ironically, was that it was very small and intimate. We all worked together on a Gratitude Garland for Rimsky’s – a kind of giant thank-you card. The fabulous Lancea designed it, and made flag templates for us. Then we dove into all manner of collage goodies, and made tons of individual thank-you flags. Lancea even brought us lots of pictures of Rimsky-Korsakov to incorporate!

Melissa enabled our project by donating about ten thousand miles of lace, to use as the basis of our garland. If you ever need some lace, you should contact Melissa. Seriously. And I always love the fact that she comes to these meetings toting unbelievable amounts of art supplies, saying, “Oh, this was just the stuff I had in my car!”

Lee (of Do Stuff! Zine fame) and Pete came, in the midst of their unpacking. They’ve just become Official P-Town Residents! Yaaaay!

Christina is in town from San Francisco, and she got to come hang out, too, which was lovely. Afterward, we had some lunch and browsed at the wonderful Redux. And I’ll get to accompany her and Susan on the now-famous Crafty Portland Tour on Tuesday – woo!

. . . So, with many flags made, we glued them around the lace until we had a loooooooooooong strand.

Then we all worked together to affix it along the wall. And it looked really, really cool! Here are a few close-ups:
