Hello there! I'm Sister Diane and I have two grand passions: making crafts and making media. That's what I write about here, and sometimes, I get all thoughtful about internet culture and creative small businesses. Thanks for stopping by! Would you like some tea?

Church of Craft 2.0

Well, we had our first meeting in our new home today, at Central Library. It’s an awesome venue, too – we’re in a big community room with good lighting, lots of space, and so easy to set up and break down. I kind of felt like I didn’t work anywhere near hard enough today!

OOh – and Stephanie, our library liaison, even brought down a whole cart of craft books from the Library stacks, so we could browse while crafting. How cool is that?

Surprisingly, we had more first-timers than regulars today, so it was nice to meet a lot of new crafters. Our project, recycled bottle bracelets, was fun, and people came up with all kinds of pretty variations. I’ll share a few below.

I’m really excited about the October meeting. I’ll share pics of the project as soon as I get my samples made this week.

Oh – and I wanted to share this: Lee and a few others came up with this great innovation: adding a button closure. I love that! It hadn’t even occurred to me! Gotta make a bottle bracelet with button now! (PS – do you recognize Lee’s scarf, made famous in Knitty?)

Some lovely felt appliques in progress.

Cool use of electrical tape here, twisted to form a sculptured detail.

Melissa had these coolio die-cut felt ribbons, which she found at Jo-Ann.

Oh – and before I go — a pickling update. The peppers were done yesterday, and they’re delicious. I would totally pickle again.
