Hello there! I'm Sister Diane and I have two grand passions: making crafts and making media. That's what I write about here, and sometimes, I get all thoughtful about internet culture and creative small businesses. Thanks for stopping by! Would you like some tea?

Kits from Chronicle

Here’s another recent find – these kits from Chronicle Books. Very, very nice design and presentation, as Chronicle will do.

The Sew-It Kit is by Amy Butler, and comes with project cards for 15 assorted sewing projects. There’s an apron, and a pot holder, and a laundry bag, and the ever-cute Market Tote. You also get a little booklet of sewing basics, a sheet of tissue patterns, and a bit of fabric and thread to get started with.

The project cards themselves are quite nice – they unfold to several panels, with both written and diagram instructions. (This little vase cover just knocks me out.)

The Felted Knits Kit is a Sara Lucas production. It’s a similar set-up, with fifteen project cards, and a booklet of knitting and felting basics. (For the record, being knit-challenged, I can’t speak for the efficacy of the all-written knitting directions, but the section on felting is some of the best material I’ve read on that subject.) Aren’t the little color-coordinated needles and wool cute?

I have to say, despite my knitting-ignorance, I think the projects in this kit are wonderful! I wish I were one of those superbeings who can translate knitting patterns into crochet, because I’d love to make some of these things. Don’t you love that plant-pot cozy with the needle-felted flower?

Okay, I’ll just share two more project cards. What a great stash-box, little pockets and all! And I don’t think many of us can resist a cute napkin ring. . . especially one with buttons.
