Hello there! I'm Sister Diane and I have two grand passions: making crafts and making media. That's what I write about here, and sometimes, I get all thoughtful about internet culture and creative small businesses. Thanks for stopping by! Would you like some tea?

My mom is a flippin’ genius (again).

Happy October 1st, everyone! My favorite month of all. And I’ve been waiting since I started this blog in January to share this with you.

My mom made me this quilt for my birthday two years ago. It’s one of my favorite things in the whole world – and the best napping accoutrement there is.

Gotta show you the block up close — it’s called “Copy Cats” (scroll down on that link). Look what happens when it’s upside down:

When we first brought this quilt home, Athens, our black cat, spent about 72 hours laying on it. I’d move it to another room, and he’d follow it there. As if to say, “This is a mighty friendly spot. Why do you keep moving it?”

I’m a big fan of the vintagey border, which is quilted along the panels, so it looks really cool.

And wouldn’t you know, the year my poor mother was making this for me was also the year I decided to put the word out that I wasn’t interested in receiving Halloween-themed birthday gifts anymore. And she was already hard at work on this quilt. Ack! My big mouth. I’m so glad she went ahead and finished it. I wouldn’t trade my Halloween quilt for anything.
