Hello there! I'm Sister Diane and I have two grand passions: making crafts and making media. That's what I write about here, and sometimes, I get all thoughtful about internet culture and creative small businesses. Thanks for stopping by! Would you like some tea?

Precious Family Heirloom (Well, to me, anyway.)

Here’s a lighter post to balance the heavier “Savvy” one today. This pillow is one of my very favorite things. My great-great grandmother made it, and during my childhood, it lived on my great grandparents’ sofa in Santa Fe, NM.

When we would drive over to visit them, little me would actually look forward to seeing this pillow again. I loved the colors, and the idea of making all these little yarn flowers. I gotta get my hands on one of these little flower looms.

When my great grandmother passed away several years ago, my grandmother was kind enough to have the pillow cleaned and re-stuffed, and give it to me. (I remember that it was looking pretty shabby by the time I reached my early twenties. But with a cleaning, it came back good as new. Acrylic yarn, man — it’s indestructible!)

I’ve been meaning to blog about this pillow all year, but yesterday, as I was wandering past the bedroom, I saw this amazing light falling on it. And I knew the moment had come.
