These days, I’m always a little glad to have Halloween done with, so I can get on to the thing that really tickles me — the Christmas season.
This is a bit ironic, as I was born on Halloween. But the thing most people don’t know about having a birthday on a major holiday is, you can get really burned out on said major holiday after a while. Halloween’s not all bad, but after over forty years of being associated with it, well . . . let’s just say we needed a break from each other.
Which is why, for the past many years, I’ve spent my birthdays going out in quest of Christmas stuff. (Little known fact: Halloween day is an excellent day to shop for Christmas treasures — there’s nobody in the stores!)
This year’s jaunt was to P-Town’s new IKEA store, which had astounding paper goods, like these awesome gift tags. I think I’ll make a garland out of them. And I love this stamped candle.
And just as I was standing among all the ornaments and counting my pennies, who should I run into but my parents! We quickly scoped out the scene, and made a pact to each buy some sets of ornaments and then split them, thereby maximizing our holiday dollar.
I love my folks — they totally get it. Let the season begin!!

Happy Belated Birthday! :) What self-respecting crafter wouldn’t want to spend their birthday in Ikea!?
