Thanks for the Memories…

Every now and again, I think every maker makes something that is just somehow more satisfying than our “everyday creations.” I just had that experience recently.

K. and I spent the Winter Solstice last December with his family in Medford. It was such a wonderful time, and I took a ton of pictures, with the idea that I’d package them up for K’s mother as a birthday gift.

Okay, her birthday is in February. I just gave this to her over the weekend. An embarrassing nine months late. Ah, well.

Anyway, I’ve long loved this Accordion Envelope Book design from Paper Source, and thought it would be a nice vehicle to present the photos.

After cropping and touching up, I divided the photos into seven themes: Arrival, Feast, Presents, Fun, Movie (we had a movie night), Show (we attended a performance of Tomaseen Foley), and Home.

And then I decorated one envelope for each theme, and slipped the pictures inside.

This was all so much fun! I’ve never tried my hand at scrapbooking, and I know this isn’t properly scrapbooking, but there was something really compelling about encapsulating a nice memory like this.

And thank goodness I didn’t post about this before I gave it! Turns out, K’s mom reads this blog — I had no idea. (Hi, Donna!) And she empowered me to report here that she loved the gift. :-)

this a is great, diane: envelope books are the BEST! they're so easy, even i can do it! ;) a client of mine did something similar with a year's worth of baby pix.
  • Wow, this is such a great idea and beautiful gift to give! It gives me ideas for presents! :-) Thank you for posting this, Diane! His mother is very lucky!
  • that is so charming! I love it.
  • Oooh, that's so beautiful. That would make a really nice Valentine's Day gift for a significant other/spouse you've been with for a while. Like early relationship pictures, silly moments and so forth. Corny? My hubby and I are hopeless romantics - our friends think we're a little gross, and I'm okay with that, hahaha!

Thanks for the nice comment the other day about the scarves/work situation. I think that giving my Etsy shop a purpose (to help me get ahead in my dance work) has given me something to direct my energy into for the moment. It's good.

This is a wonderful gift! I love the way you packaged it, the papers you used, and the thoughtfulness that went into its making. It's so great that they can just pull out one compact packet and have the whole visit's memories at their fingertips.
