  • im not much for ginger bbread cookies. dont get me wrong i do love them but after slaving away over a house i dont want anything thats hard or crunchy.

today i ventured to make some ginger bread.
its really cakey but for some reason i didnt want to mix all the ingredients.
i took a box of carrot cake mix
and just sorta messed with it with molasses spices orange zest, baked it in mini loaves. and it turned out sooo delicious.

  • I am SO JEALOUS! I love gingerbread houses! I’m going to work on this right after the holiday cards, the inchies, the altered Christmas tins, and having a meal.

    Thanks for all this candy!

  • This was such a special podcast. I enjoyed it very much. What treasured memories you have with your Mom. Great job!

  • That was great. I’m a little envious of your years of gingerbread house making. My mum’s cookbook had a picture of one and I agitated for years to make it but could never persuade her. My mum is a good baker but can’t be bothered with that much fuss – and to be fair, considering that I had three younger brothers, I can kind of see her point.

Oh my gosh, your little santa-guys are SO cute I could scream! =c)

I have never posted on your site before so Hello! and let me say that I absolutely love your podcast and website. I listen to your podcasts at work (which is not a good idea sometimes because I want to go home and craft stuff when I need to be working!).

  • It was such a lovely interview! You are very lucky to have such a crafty (and funny!) mom. :-) I never made Gingerbreads houses as I don’t think this is a well-known craft in here, but it was so fascinating listening to how it is done. It looks like a lot of work but very rewarding and whimsical. :-)

This is an amazing podcast. You guys are a hoot! :) My favorite part was your mother explaining how she made book stacks (with cardboard tops) to support the drying roof and commented that there may be a more scientifically accepted method. For a tiny moment, I imagined Gingerbread Scientists in their white lab coats making emphatic notes about improper roof support techniques. :)

I must say, I got a little teary-eyed at the end, too. You guys are so sweet. :)
