How to Give New Life to Old Wrap (and Other Stories)

I’ve been fighting with (and getting my butt kicked by) a little cold or something the past few days, so I’m just now catching up on things. Here are a couple tibits for blog-land. . . .

This week’s tutorial on DIY Alert is a fun way to re-use old wrapping paper and make it into new wrapping paper. (Pictured, as you might guess, above.)

I’m one of those people who frantically save the wrap from all my gifts. Poor K. is so good about me hissing at him: “Save the wrap for me when you open that. And don’t tear it!”)

But let’s face it, saved wrap almost always has little rips or dings in it. So I decided to cut my old wrap into strips and weave them, which hides all those imperfections nicely. And I love the randomness of the resulting sheet. I already used it to wrap a giftie for someone special.

In other news, Church of Craft happened yesterday, but no pictures, as I was cameraless. We made these Paper Strip Ornaments, which were in the Holiday ’06 issue of Adorn. It was a quiet meeting, as they usually are in December. The highlight for me was having a couple people there who were making ornaments for their first Christmas trees — Susan, and also a very nice young couple with their adorable baby daughter. How cool!

Okey dokey . . . start fresh tomorrow. Take your echinacea, everyone!
