(Sniff) . . . Is that Obsession I smell?

03 Jan 2008

"Why did you only ask for craft books for Christmas?" said my mother. Because they're there.

You may notice that most of these are crochet-related. Which is funny -- as I was adding things to my Amazon wish list over the months, I had no idea I was adding so many crochet books. Clearly, I'm into this. But what's really funny is that of all the crafts I've ever tried, I'm worst at crochet. And yet, it's soooooooooooo compelling.

I love this book dearly. In true Japanese craft-book style, it takes cute (or kyuuuto, as the case may be) and makes it sophisticated. I love the look of lace crochet, and these projects, with their muted colors and simplicity, seem so modern.

Maybe if I had one of these hook cases, I'd crochet better!

Love, love, love the look of this flower.

Then there's this one, which was a delightful surprise. Truth be known, I put this on my wish list just because I liked the cover so much. But inside, it's highly useful.

There's page after page of stitches, from basic to wild, with these great photos and instructions (BOTH written and diagrammed, thank you very much). Lots to learn. I need about eight hours of crochet-time a day.

. . . And in the back, a few choice projects. I love this bag. The colors are superb, and the shape makes it very elegant. And I really like the rings with the rope strap.

Yup, do the math here and realize that I clearly have certain . . . er . . . attachment issues.

hi!
I wish you a great 2008! now I'm waiting for your new projects!!!

:)

Me too. I've only been crocheting since March but have amassed quite a book collection, including vintage doily booklets from eBay.

How Funny--here I thought I was the only crafter that had that problem!! I love to look at knitting books and think about trying it, but I'm soooo slow. Would you believe years to knit a few inches because I kept ripping it out and doing it again? I can crochet like crazy, though I'm still slow there too. I've been working on the same afghan for ten years now, but it is almost done and I've gotten faster. I have more time to work on it too since many of the sites like yours have inspired me to organise my time better.

That's an awesome haul of crochet books! I heard that crochet is healthy. It cures agues, balances the four humors, and, makes your blood sweet. What more do you need?!

ha ha! I hear you.
I got Mr Funky's Super Crochet Wonderful too (great title)

I also got
Amigurumi!: Super Happy Crochet Cute
The Cute Book by Aranzi Aronzo
Kyuuto! Japanese Crafts! Amigurumi
and
Knitting Lingerie Style: More Than 30 Basic and Lingerie-inspired Designs
Every year my Mum asks why I mainly want craft books too. Should I send you a photo of my bookshelf ;)

My mum was equally baffled by my Christmas mountain of Japanese craft books.

"But you don't speak Japanese, how will you understand the instructions?"

Bless! :O)

It's hilarious that you're mentioning this! :-D I have the same "problem". I was at my local bookshop today and I kept telling me not to buy -another- craft book. And, obviously, I had to buy at least one.. for now. ;-)

And, just like you, just to look at the books is enough to feel creative. I still need to work on my knitting and crochet, thought!
