Hello there! I'm Sister Diane and I have two grand passions: making crafts and making media. That's what I write about here, and sometimes, I get all thoughtful about internet culture and creative small businesses. Thanks for stopping by! Would you like some tea?

Love Me Some Kits

This was how I celebrated the New Year – enjoying a couple excellent craft kits! This bird is one of Kristin‘s Recycled Peace Ornaments, from her December Craft Leftovers Monthly. I posted a picture of the kit a while back:

I’ve written before about how much I enjoy the sort of pampered feeling you get from a good craft kit. Kristin does such a great job with her templates and written instructions. I had everything I needed to make my ornament – including a needle! I did have to add a doll button eye, but only because I am currently adding doll buttons to everything.

I see that this kit isn’t in Kristin’s Etsy shop anymore, but there are plenty of others. You can also see things people have made from these kits at the Craft Leftovers Flickr group.

And then there’s Cathy‘s Vintage Pincushion Kit! This was a gift from Susan, and I almost didn’t want to break into it. Cathy’s packaging is always so beautiful. But finally I couldn’t stand it.

This is a simple project, and so much fun! I love the vintage fabric and coordinating felt colors. And that little chenille bee just kills me. Those were everywhere when I was a kid.

I’m also the proud owner of one of Cathy’s Vintage Flower Loom Kits, so I also busted that out and made a few crewel wool flowers for the top of my pincushion. Loomed flowers . . . now that’s a special brand of craft-crack.

I believe these kits will appear in the Felt Club Shoppe soon, or possibly in Cathy’s shop.

And if you’re looking for even more kits, the Maker Store always has great ones from CRAFT Magazine.
