Hello there! I'm Sister Diane and I have two grand passions: making crafts and making media. That's what I write about here, and sometimes, I get all thoughtful about internet culture and creative small businesses. Thanks for stopping by! Would you like some tea?

My New Boss

I think I blogged about teaching a series of Recycled Sweater Crafts classes in the local libraries this month. Well, they’re going gangbusters, and lots of fun.

In these classes, I offer a choice of three simple projects to make from felted (or fulled, potato potahto) sweaters. And this little guy is the runaway favorite. I’m telling you, it’s those Doll Buttons. It’s all about the Doll Buttons.

Oh – and my pattern has ears for a bear, cat, or dog, so people can customize.)

We also do this little business card case, which I quite like. I was talking with a youth librarian about an upcoming version of this class we’re doing for teens, and we decided to re-christen this as a “cell phone case” for them. My cell fits in it! Cool!

The third project is a neckwarmer, which I haven’t photographed yet.

Q: How do you know you’re a blogger in Portland, Oregon in January?

A: Every time the sun comes out, the first thing you do is run for your camera and photograph as many things for your blog as you can think of, to carry you through all the gray days in between.

Happy Weekend, all!

  • I love your bear. Would you mind sharing where you got your pattern from. I would love to use next year when we start our homeschool co-op. I think everyone would love to make it.
    Thanks,
    Donna

The bear is adorable, and the little case is very cute. For those who don’t have business cards, other good uses are store discount/frequent buyer cards, lipstick & mirror, or a deck of cards.

Also, if you make the case a little bigger, it would be great to hold tampons. I’m not a fan of having my tampons roll out of my purse, and I was even MORE embarrassed when I was a teenager. Not sure how you would present that in the class, especially if there are boys present!

The bear is adorable… I’m playing around with recycling sweaters into cool stuff myself, and this is a great idea.

  • I’m loving the recycled sweater projects! I’ve been using sweaters a lot lately too—I have a pile to use up so let’s see that neck warmer! Wish I could teleport myself to your class instead. ;-)

Hi, I LOVE your Boss Bear. He is just adorable. I would love to purchase the pattern from you. My daughter and I have been purchasing old wool sweaters from Goodwill and plan to try wool felting this winter. He would be a very neat project to do. I just found your blog today — lucky me. :)
