Hello there! I'm Sister Diane and I have two grand passions: making crafts and making media. That's what I write about here, and sometimes, I get all thoughtful about internet culture and creative small businesses. Thanks for stopping by! Would you like some tea?

Amazing Plastic Canvas Work

Ruth was kind enough to email me about this amazing plastic canvas work, and give me permission to share it with you. And I’m beside myself with excitement at this stuff.

These pieces are made by Anab Mohamud, who is from Somalia and lives in Bristol, UK, where she studies sewing with Ruth. I’d recommend a trip to Ruth’s Flickr page for more details.

What excites me most about this work is the intricate forms Anab has managed to create with the canvas. The vase above is like a wedding cake, with all the wonderful curly sort of filigree. And I love that the stitchery and the grid pattern of the canvas carry equal design weight.

So many new creative possibilities here! Thank you so much, Ruth and Anab, for sharing these!
