Cookies, Cookies everywhere!

Would you guys mind sending my Mom plenty of Baking Fortitude this weekend? She and I spent yesterday baking over 800 cookies for Valentine’s Baking Project 2008.

I posted about this last year, and linked to many of the recipes we made yesterday. Mom still has several days of baking ahead of her – and I’m off teaching Recycled Sweaters again.

(Above is a photo of Grammy’s Chocolate Cookies, a prizewinner in a recent Martha Stewart contest. Try them! They’re soooooooo good. Makes a girl miss her sugar-eating days.)

  • Yess! Chris is right! What kind of daughter.......

Thank you Chris for the thoughts! I did get a days help from my friend Heidi also. Now my freezer is full of leftovers except the Linzors. Love them even without the jam filling so they are part of my daily diet til they are gone. Now, here is a bit of serendipity for you. As Diane will attest, I can not spell my way out of a paper bag (the wise fathers were trying out a new reading method when I went to school that did not include phonics). So of course I had to jump up and grab my King Arthur Flour Cookie Book and look up Linzor. And I found a new recipe to try called Linzer Cookie Bars which sound wonderful, easy and best of all should convert to splenda for Diane's special dietary choices. So - thank you twice!!
  • Okay, can I talk to you for a moment?

I read last year's post, and it is SO AWESOME that you guys know how to make shortbread cookies! People look at me like I'm nuts! Which I am, but it's not because I make shortbread cookies by hand.

And the Linzer cookies thing? LOVE doing these! I once spent so much time in the detailed, stepped method of making them that I didn't get to sleep until 230. And that was ON the cookie sheet! I mean, it truly IS crafting! Baking used to be my craft of choice before I found paper lying around and thought to throw acrylic on it and paste it to other paper. So, I know just what your mom's probably going through right now. And I have to say one thing...

What kind of daughter would teach at a time like this?

Well, unfortunately, the post didn't give your mom's address, so I guess I'll just have to sleep at my house in So. Calif. tonight. But I wish her LOTS of good baking energy! She's a true genius for sending love out at a time when people are missing their cookies!
  • I would love to help your mom bake cookies! I didn't have time to bake all during the holiday season! I remember your podcast about the gingerbread houses, and she's a doll. Where does she live? I have a full time job, so I could come over and bake until midnight, then sleep on the couch, but I have to get up at 5.

I'm going to last year's post to find out how to get to your house!
