A little vintage crochet/knitting fun for a Friday. These images are from a 1943 booklet that Cathy sent me, “Woolies for Babies,” published by Chadwick’s Red Heart Wools.

Wow! That’s a lot of ruffles! I think baby gender identification ran a bit more . . . traditional in 1943. I love the baby’s slightly exasperated expression. That get-up must have been really hot, especially under studio lights.

The truly stylish baby has matching popcorn-covered accessories. Heck, I wouldn’t mind a case like this for my water-bottle.

. . . And this one’s just plain cute. I’d have worn a little jumper-skirt like that.
Let me just point out to my friends who are expecting babies: I am not planning to make any of these for you!

Oh my gosh – I totally have this exact same pattern book! I got it in a stack of similar ones from my grandmother-in-law. (But this was one of my faves.) We’ll have to get together and compare crazy vintage patterns sometime!

Those images are so cute, imagine when one knitted everything for the baby, from panties to pants and jackets etc. Reminded me about a booklet I once got, you can see images here now that I searched and found it;

cute too, huh? I never did knit anything from it, but I still have it somewhere.

Awww… those are so cute!
I agree on that bottle cover, that would be really neet!

Hey Sister D, you could totally make those jumpers from felted (fulled) sweaters! That ribbing along the waist could just be the sweater ribbing. It would be virtually waterproof, machine washable and much faster than knitting it from scratch.

heh! I actually kind of like the ruffle-o-ganza. Maybe it’s just because the baby is so cute? And the little jumper and lederhosen? I can totally see my hippie friends putting their little boys in those (minus the suspenders). I’d put my lil girls in the skirty one. I am a Bad Mummy. What blows my mind is how old those cute babies are now. Time flies.

Am I the only one who is slightly scared by this? hahahahaha! I like the water bottle idea, though.
