Hello there! I'm Sister Diane and I have two grand passions: making crafts and making media. That's what I write about here, and sometimes, I get all thoughtful about internet culture and creative small businesses. Thanks for stopping by! Would you like some tea?

Your Vintage Craft Book Fix for today…

Here are a couple more scores from my recent visit to The Kitten. This Aunt Lydia’s booklet is a cute 5×7 size, with rounded corners that make me inordinately happy. And look! Its original price was 29 cents, and I paid a dollar for it. See, things like this only appreciate in value. A wise investment….

I love these circle rugs. (There’s also a great one in Crochet Me, the book.) I’ve been working on a tote panel on this theme for ages. (How DO they all get to be long-term projects?)

I’m sorry, but this toilet set had me captivated. Now that’s a comfortable seat! Looks like that crochet is about a foot deep.

These next images are from a booklet called ‘Creative Patterns,’ published 1977 in London by Publishing Innovations Limited. The cover isn’t much to look at, but the photos are fab-u-lous! I sure hope this little girl’s mother makes her wear a slip, though.

I am now officially a collector of Exasperated, Crochet-Covered Babies.

Seriously, wouldn’t you dwell in this universe? I sure would – bare feet and all. And I’d be listening to some Partridge Family while I crocheted. Oh, yeah.

OK, I think I lived through that generation. Does anyone actually remember wearing any of that? I remember maxi-skirts. Vaguely remember orange and dark brown Granny Squares. Were we really that tragically un-hip in our attempts to be cool?

  • Hmmm…I can’t *quite* see, but I think the little girl in the long crochet skirt is wearing pants underneath. Can anyone else confirm this?

I would attend an exhibition of exasperated crochet-covered baby pictures. Just in case anyone secretly wants to curate one.

I love the foot-deep bathroom rug. I’m totally making one like that when we wear out the one we have now.

Oh wow, that shawl is gorgeous! I love vintage patterns, you’re lucky to find so many.

I second the suggestion for an exhibition of exasperated crochet covered babies pictures! *grin*
