Okay, THIS is cool. Anna tipped me off to the Pillsbury Bake-Off blog, which is covering the annual million-dollar baking contest live today.
The posts already on the site are fascinating – did you know they set up 102 mini-kitchens, complete with ovens, in a hotel ballroom for this event? Imagine the electrical! And imagine the heat of that many ovens. They apparently crank the temperature in the ballroom way down to compensate. Heck, imagine trying to bake under time-pressure in a hotel ballroom with no sink!
(What you see here is an army of staff, carefully setting all those oven clocks to exactly the same time.)
Anyway, the contest has just begun, and blog reporter DyShaun will be posting updates throughout the day.
. . . And the blog-geek in me is just tickled at this idea of a short-term blog that covers an event in real time.
Happy Baking, everyone!

One of my college friends qualified for the Bake-Off several years ago… then COULDN’T GO because her due date was a day or so after the event and couldn’t travel.
I would’ve done it anyway. But that’s just me. ;)

That is one thing I miss about not having cable tv – the various cookoffs on the food network. My kids and I love watching them rush around what looks like such a small area.
I think I’d love to watch in person – everyone cooks/bakes so differently it would be interesting.
