So, My pal Kristin, who is always doing eight or nine cool things at once, is mounting a really interesting performance art/craft installation in De Kalb, where she’s finishing up her last year of college.
Check this out: it’s called “On Finishing.” Until May 1, Kristin will install herself in the front window of the yarn store where she works. From 1-4 pm Monday – Thursday, she’ll work on her unfinished knitting and crochet projects in full view of passersby.

See them all, strung up in the window? Eleven UFOs in total. Sweaters, afghans, scarves, and more. Below each one is a pile of yarn and the pattern sketches. Kristin has been at this for most of April.
Kristin wants to do two things with this installation: one, to put knitting and crochet in a “time context,” to help people more fully understand the time and effort that goes into handmade things. And also, to tie up loose ends, both literally and figuratively, as she prepares to finish school and move on to her next adventure.

Check out this fun article the Daily Chronicle did about the project. And, read more about Kristin’s perspectives (and funny stories of people’s reactions) at her blog.
. . . And while we’re talking about Kristin, just a heads up – the May Craft Leftovers Monthly just went up for sale, and since I just scored my copy, it’s now okay for you to get yours. :-)

Oh Wow! that is so cool! I love the idea behind it! So brilliant. And, yes, I too am always STUNNED at how many balls she can keep up in the air!

The Storefront Artist Project in Pittsfield did this sort of thing with writers. That kind of stuff is always interesting. GL to Kristin! :o)

This is a wonderful idea!
Nothing like random onlookers to focus the mind and raise the productivity level, perhaps I should sit on my front lawn…
