Hello there! I'm Sister Diane and I have two grand passions: making crafts and making media. That's what I write about here, and sometimes, I get all thoughtful about internet culture and creative small businesses. Thanks for stopping by! Would you like some tea?

TGI Market Day

I do love the weekly ritual of market season. It was a quick trip today, because I’m teaching a library class this afternoon. But there were so many pretties, including these near-to-bursting peony buds.

Carrots and sweet Walla Walla onions were all over the place this week. I got some carrots to roast, which is something I’ve been wanting to try for a while. Should have grabbed the onions, too. Oh, well.

Such pretty, multicolored potatoes! And what are those in the background? Right, my new obsession: favas.

We lucked upon some artichokes, too. I love the idea of artichokes being a tough, leathery kind of thistle, harboring that tender, yummy stuff at their core.

This week’s haul is so pretty! The strawberries are Bon Tons, which have a slightly more tart, acidic flavor than last week’s Jefferson Reds. And I can’t wait to cook those purple potatoes.

Since we’re on week three of fava-gobbling, I’ll link to a few good recipes I’ve found for them: Emeril’s Fettucine with Favas and Pancetta, Seasonal Chef’s Pasta with Fava Bean Sauce, and Ricotta and Fava Bean Bruschetta on Epicurious.
