Okay, one last nephew post, for no other reason than I am missing that boy terribly today.
Being an auntie seriously rocks, especially with such a creative nephew. I was worried I wouldn’t have enough boy-friendly making opportunities, but they just kind of presented themselves.
Shrinky Dinks were a huge hit. I found a lot of pictures of monsters and dinosaurs and such on Google and printed them for him to trace. Then we glued those little spike pin-backs to them, so he could wear them.

K showed him how to model tikis from Sculpey. (If you’re so inclined, just put something in the center so the clay won’t get too thick. We used spiral dowel pins from the home improvement store.)
Funny bit: my nephew refers to K, whose real name is Katin. as “Uncle Kate.” I’m going to call him that from now on.

We also carved some tikis from blocks of floral foam. This is a great carving material for kids. A butter knife will cut it just fine, and you can also scrape into it with clay tools or really any household object. And the finished carving takes acrylic paint well. Just put down a sheet to catch the mess!

At the science museum, we built a stegosaurus skeleton. How awesome is this – they put it in a giant sandbox and you had to dig for all the pieces. (That’s my handsome brother in the red cap.)

And on the beach, Uncle Kate whipped up a driftwood shelter. He’s good like that.
Great, great ten days of boy-crafting! Wish I were still there today.

Ooh, I’m going to bookmark this. I’ve got a couple of boys around here who would love this stuff. Especially the shrinky-dinks. How great that technology has advanced enough to let you print your own. I remember buying a set of Smurf shrinky dinks when I was a kid – and I didn’t even *like* the Smurfs. You were just kind of at the mercy of what was available, you know?

I wonder who had the most fun – Nephew or Uncle?
From the looks of your pictures, I’m betting it’s a draw :)
I’m always on the lookout for stuff to do that doesn’t include “pink” or tulle with my kiddos. Keep the great ideas coming!

My nephews are starting to get tired of me LOL so yay for some new craft ideas! It’s the oldest (he’s 8) really. I’m sure he’d love making shrinky dink dino pins though – and luckily for him, I’m pretty sure I brought shrinky dink stuff with me.

Having 3 little boys, I’m sorta loving the phrase “boy-crafting”. And now that I see the comments, I love Janets “bloke crafts”, too.
It looks like a great time and I would miss it, too. Time to schedule the next one!

Oh, I’m so tickled by this post! I love it! I can’t wait to sculpt tikis, and to carve foam! I didn’t think of doing this! But mostly, it’s just great to see the photos of nephew fun.
I have more to say, but I better wait til later…
