Hello there! I'm Sister Diane and I have two grand passions: making crafts and making media. That's what I write about here, and sometimes, I get all thoughtful about internet culture and creative small businesses. Thanks for stopping by! Would you like some tea?

Review: Quick Stuff to Make

I’ve been watching for Quick Stuff to Make, the new CraftStylish magazine, and it just popped up at my local Fred Meyer over the weekend. (It’s also at Borders, Barnes & Noble, and Jo-Ann stores.)

Since the sad demise of Adorn, it’s so nice to have a good omni-craft magazine again. I likes me some creative cross-pollination.

So many good things in here, and all are designed to be fast-making. That necklace on the cover is by Christina Loff, and she designed two more inside. Cute, chunky, and using surprising combinations of elements.

The ladies of Stitch Lounge converted a flannel nightgown into a nice big tote, which is pretty freakin’ genius.

I liked Diana Rupp‘s simple-but-effective fabric-on-paper appliques.

. . . And this blew me away. Look closely; that’s cross-stitch on chipboard notebook covers. Wowee. They’re Amy Holbrook‘s design.

I’ve only scratched the surface of this issue – there are also patchwork and studded bags, a crochet shrug, papercraft wall art, wrapped bangles, silk pillowcases, a knit beret, a sewn vest, embroidred sheer curtains . . . did I mention, “omni-craft?”

Oh – and templates and patterns in the back, which I always appreciate.

By the way, the inaugural CraftStylish issue, Quick Stuff to Sew, came out a while back and is similarly great. It’s off newsstands now, but you can still pick one up over here.
