Talk about awesome mail. . . I had an email from Niku (who is the queen of awesome mail) a while back. She was doing a test program called the Lovely Letterbox. I signed right up.
First, I got this cute fabric-and-chipboard postcard, letting me know my package of goodies was on its way. Then a couple weeks later, this big envelope arrived.

Lots of zines – yaaaaaaay! The Girls’ Fiction is Niku’s, and the others are by other writers. Ker-Bloom #56 details a 700-mile bike trip. And it’s entirely letterpress printed – gorgeous. Sobstory #6 preserves a conversation between two friends about the meaning of happiness. Guerilla Gardening is about the political nature of growing your own food.
Again and again, zines amaze me with their capacity to open your mind to new perspectives.

A close-up of Niku’s zine, because I love her work so much. This one incorporates pieces of maps from three places she’s lived.

Anyway, the Lovely Letterbox also has a crafty side. Look at this adorable stamped notepaper, and this bag of collagey bits. And, hand-carved stamps! One of them in the shape of OREGON!! Be still my heart.
If Niku decides to expand the Lovely Letterbox, you’ll be the first to know. If you like cool mail-related stuff, visit her Etsy shop.
