Hello there! I'm Sister Diane and I have two grand passions: making crafts and making media. That's what I write about here, and sometimes, I get all thoughtful about internet culture and creative small businesses. Thanks for stopping by! Would you like some tea?

Review: The Naughty Secretary Club Book

This one probably gets the award for “Most Fun Craft Book” of the year. If you’ve seen Jennifer Perkins‘ work, and chances are that you have, then you’ll be prepared for the vibrant, brash, and funny style of The Naughty Secretary Club Book.

It’s divided into three sections: A Case of the Mondays, Hump Day, and TGIF. And the art direction is awesome – it’s color-saturated and propped with all kinds of nifty vintage office stuff.

Lots of great jewelry projects to make. I had plenty of favorites, including this cute button bracelet.

Holy Moly! Vintage telephone cord bangles! How freakin’ cool is that?

It’s not all beads and findings, either. Here’s a great recycled-necktie brooch.

It bears mentioning that the book covers a wide gamut of techniques: traditional jewelry-making stuff, and also sewing and gluing and drilling and transfers and molds and more. Heck, some of the projects even make use of traditional office supplies, like paper clips and plastic file folders.

Dude. I just think that’s hilarious. And charming. And practical – if the watch works, then nobody ever has to ask you what time it is.

And perhaps best of all, each project comes with nice, step-by-step photos to make the process very clear. This is a real boon in a book that encompasses so many diverse techniques.

If work’s getting you down, then devote some “internet research time” to the NSC website.
