Hello there! I'm Sister Diane and I have two grand passions: making crafts and making media. That's what I write about here, and sometimes, I get all thoughtful about internet culture and creative small businesses. Thanks for stopping by! Would you like some tea?

The Crafty House

Okay, this is kind of a weird project, not to mention one that was never finished. But it is probably my most ambitious plastic canvas effort to date.

So, a while back, K. and I undertook to build a “crafty house” in Second Life. And we decided that, since you can defy the laws of physics in SL, it might be fun if it were a needlepoint house.

So, we set about doing a whole bunch of math to figure out all the proportions, and then I laid in a stock of plastic canvas and stitched up a whole lot of big wall and roof panels. It took a looooooooooong time.

Then, we photographed and Photoshopped all these panels, and used the image files to cover this house. There’s a teeny person in this photo, just to show you how big this thing is.

Here’s the inside. We had big plans for things like sewing machines, a candle-dipping station, a loom, and more. K. did build an awesome old-time radio that played CraftyPod podcasts. He’s such a genius.

But alas, we just never got around to finishing this project. Much as I like SL, I just can’t spend the kind of time needed to get really proficient in there. And not too many folks in there are very crafty, anyway.

Ah, well. Some UFO’s are destined to stay that way. But at least I finally got to show it to you. (Don’t bother searching for this baby in world, btw – we’ve taken it down.)
