Hello there! I'm Sister Diane and I have two grand passions: making crafts and making media. That's what I write about here, and sometimes, I get all thoughtful about internet culture and creative small businesses. Thanks for stopping by! Would you like some tea?

Intriguing stuff from Chronicle

Christina passed this along to me, and so I’m passing it along to you:

This spring, Chronicle Books will be publishing a book called Change the World for Ten Bucks. It’s full of quick and easy tips and suggestions on what people can do to make the world a nicer place for all of us. The book has already been published in many countries, but Chronicle would love to get suggestions to include from people here in the US.

So, what would be your answer to this question:

What would you ask one million people to do to change the world?

Feel free to leave your answer in the comments. Chronicle would love to have your answers by the end of September 2nd.

If you want some more background on this project, visit the authors’ website, wearewhatwedo.org – lots and lots of inspiring reading there!

I would ask one million people to not follow too closely in vehicles and to not “control” the passing lane. This would save sooo many lives!

As far as crafting goes, I would ask one million people to be adventurous and try a project they have never done. It might just relieve some stress–which could also save some lives! :)

I would ask one million people to take pride in their surroundings and pick up a piece of trash that they see on the sidewalk or street, and put it in the trash can.

  • I would ask one million people to say hello and/or thankyou like they mean it to the people who serve them through the day (like store clerks, secretary’s, ups guy etc.).

  • I would ask one million people to make it a habit to feed someone who’s hungry, on a regular basis, without judgemeny. Whether they buy an extra lunch and hand it to that homeless guy they see every day; or they buy a bag of groceries and leave them on the doorstep of a needy family; or they work at a soup kitchen; or they donate regularly to an organization that feeds people in third world countries… just do something to help people to have one of the most basic needs in humanity – enough to eat.

I’d ask them to stop waiting for God to fix things, and fix it themselves.

I would ask one million people to make two loaves of bread by hand, one for themselves and one for someone else. The someone else could be anyone, a neighbor, a relative, a stranger or donating it to a place that feeds those who need it. It takes no extra work to make two loaves instead of one, but the act of making the bread forms a connection to the food that no machine or purchase can replicate. You eat your bread knowing that you have made that connection with and for someone else, as well.

I’ll teach anyone who wants to know how to do it, too. :)

I would ask one million people to rescue a shelter animal, and to spay and neuter all of their pets.
