Hello there! I'm Sister Diane and I have two grand passions: making crafts and making media. That's what I write about here, and sometimes, I get all thoughtful about internet culture and creative small businesses. Thanks for stopping by! Would you like some tea?

Resource Roundup #3

Crafty Daisies‘ ingenious craft book club will be discussing Lotta Prints on October 22. To get in on the conversation, you just make a project from the book and then provide your insights on how it went and how the book helped (or not).

What a great way for our community to participate in the current craft book boom!

Janet, of the great Nuts About Needlepoint blog, has just launched a resource website, All About Needlepoint. There, you can find a stitch library, advice about threads, finishing techniques, a pattern directory, Q&A, and more.

I’m excited about this, because I think needlepoint is a seriously undervalued craft these days. And not just from a plastic-canvas standpoint. :-)

Freakin’ awesome owl by squishyfish.

Hey, Northwesterners – the mighty Plush You! opens this weekend in Seattle. (For the uninitiated, that’s a fab gallery show of plush toys-as-art.) It runs through October.

And, if you’re not near Seattle, you can also catch the show in San Francisco in November.

  • Do you think my husband would be upset if he came home to find that I had pulled up the linoleum in the kitchen so I could craft with it? The owl is so SQUEEZABLE. I am hoping for next year to make plush characters for the kids in the family. The detail stitching in that owl is definately worth remembering!

  • I LOVE that owl!!

I would so zip over to that show if I were in Seattle! Maybe I can make it to San Francisco, but not sure about another trip north this year. I bet there’s some GREAT stuff!

I’ll follow this with interest as I was thinking about buying the Lotta book myself. Would be great to get and insight from other people on it.
