I know we’re getting a little bookish around here lately, but I didn’t want to miss this one.
Knitting for Good! is by Betsy Greer, who you may know from her website, Craftivism. She’s written an absolutely lovely meditation on the larger meanings of craft. (Yes, the book is framed in terms of knitting, but the ideas here apply to any mode of creativity.)
She discusses how creative work can be personally healing and self- affirming. She talks about the social connections that crafting can foster. And she explores how small acts of making can have real impact against local and global problems.
Sprinkled throughout are essays by other crafters (yours truly included – what an honor!), and knitting patterns for items you can make for charity.
Betsy has always striven to articulate why the crafts we make are important, so it’s really exciting to see her work collected in book form. This is a great read for crafters of any stripe. Do check it out.
