Maybe this is the spark I need to reach under my bed and get out that huge bag of dad’s old ties?!! :-)

How inspiring. I’m shitty at sewing but it made me want to have a go at the skirt. I’m still a bit scared though.

My dad’s retired…I bet he’d never miss his old ties if I stole them one…by…one…though my husband’s ties are much more fun (bugs bunny, trombones, etc). Hmmm, the possibilities.

I’m really looking forward to this. Earlier I asked my brother and everyone else I know who has had to wear ties in the past to give me all their ties. I also asked my thrift-store frequenting friend to look for them whenever she goes. I was inspired by your craftstylish turtorials.

me again! I listened to your previous podcast, about publishing your own craft book, for the third time this morning, and it really made me smile when I was at the bookstore today. Because your guest on that podcast (I’m sorry I forgot her name right now) talked about how there is a huge inventory of knitting and sewing titles on the market right now. And I was looking for the mixed media mania book you recently reviewed here, and when I got to the crafts section, there was one column of shelves about paper arts and jewelry. And four columns of shelves on knitting, crochet, and sewing. I love those, too. But it was a direct example of exactly that your guest talked about!

My brother used to work at Goodwill, and gave a large trashbag of ties to his (then) girlfriend, who made herself an entire dress out of the ties for a formal event. It was quite an elegent dress.
I know I can find a picture somewhere…Check back at my blog. I’ll post it there when/if I find it.

This was fun to listen to! I have used ties for some of my doll costuming. Since ties are already cut on a bias, they make excellent piping and bias tape. I guess that using piping probably qualifies for more intermediate or advanced sewing, but the you can go some great places with it! And the hard part- getting your fabric cut on a bias- is already done :-)
