Hello there! I'm Sister Diane and I have two grand passions: making crafts and making media. That's what I write about here, and sometimes, I get all thoughtful about internet culture and creative small businesses. Thanks for stopping by! Would you like some tea?

Resource Roundup #6

First, an interesting library resource, courtesy of Emily-Jane at Portland’s fab Central Library. The How To Do It Index is a giant catalog of how-to articles from magazines, ranging from 1963 – 1999. You can browse it online, find articles, and then head to your local library’s periodicals section (or microfilm). It’s a pretty amazing range of DIY – crafts to cooking to building to electronics… and way more.

(You may find the online index a little challenging to navigate – try reading these helpful hints on Emily-Jane’s blog.)

If you enjoyed Margit’s printable box templates, you might also enjoy her new blog, where she’s posting gorgeous images of her woven hearts. My mom and I can’t wait to try some of these ideas.

In case you haven’t received the joyous news, Spoonflower is officially out of beta and open to all! Just in time to get your own custom fabric printed up for holiday projects!

Locals, if you need something to do on Tuesday before election returns start coming in, come by the Museum of Contemporary Craft at noon. There’s a discussion of DIY and the Resurgence of Craft. I’ll be participating, along with Susan and Cathy and others. Love to see you there!
