Hello there! I'm Sister Diane and I have two grand passions: making crafts and making media. That's what I write about here, and sometimes, I get all thoughtful about internet culture and creative small businesses. Thanks for stopping by! Would you like some tea?

More Japanese Plastic Canvas Fun!

My new obsession with Japanese plastic canvas books continues. Here’s a little dealio I just scored on eBay. ISBN is 4-277-49027-1.

When I first looked at it, I thought that the pc was stitched with strands of seed beads. Which would be unbelievably complicated to do. But, on closer inspection…

. . . The stitching medium is actually a braided cord, with metallic strands. The book contains a prominent link to this website, which sells the cord – and, a ton of other wonderful Japanese things. Pop it through Google Translator and have a great time browsing.

Anyway, there aren’t as many insanely outside-the-box projects as there are in my other book, but still, some cuteness. I usually have a strict no-tissue-box policy when it comes to pc, but ya gotta love these googly-eyed owls.

I think these coin purses are the killer app here. What a nice little showcase for a cool needlepoint pattern!

I’ll definitely be looking around for some metallic cord locally – I like how it elevates a basic pc project, like this pencil cup. That fabric liner doesn’t hurt, either.

In the back of the book, and having nothing to do with pc, there are these awesome little cord-wrapped critters. My guess is, the cord is wound over wooden beads. A steady-hand craft, to be sure, but aren’t they cute?
