My new obsession with Japanese plastic canvas books continues. Here’s a little dealio I just scored on eBay. ISBN is 4-277-49027-1.
When I first looked at it, I thought that the pc was stitched with strands of seed beads. Which would be unbelievably complicated to do. But, on closer inspection…

. . . The stitching medium is actually a braided cord, with metallic strands. The book contains a prominent link to this website, which sells the cord – and, a ton of other wonderful Japanese things. Pop it through Google Translator and have a great time browsing.

Anyway, there aren’t as many insanely outside-the-box projects as there are in my other book, but still, some cuteness. I usually have a strict no-tissue-box policy when it comes to pc, but ya gotta love these googly-eyed owls.

I think these coin purses are the killer app here. What a nice little showcase for a cool needlepoint pattern!

I’ll definitely be looking around for some metallic cord locally – I like how it elevates a basic pc project, like this pencil cup. That fabric liner doesn’t hurt, either.

In the back of the book, and having nothing to do with pc, there are these awesome little cord-wrapped critters. My guess is, the cord is wound over wooden beads. A steady-hand craft, to be sure, but aren’t they cute?

The coin purses are definitely cute! They’d be good xmas gifts, perhaps? How long do you think they’d take to make?

The coin purses are too cute! And my beaded pens would love a home like that pencil cup :)

Googly eyed owls, I love them! And the metallic cord baskets are adorable, but not as adorable as the one I’ve got from you for my birthday!! xoxoxo

No PC tissue boxes, eh? Have you seen the one my grandma made for me? It might change your mind:

I’ve seen metallic floss at the local crafty outlets- would that work?

A similar thread with a cord with metallic running through it would be Rainbow Gallery’s Gold Rush. It’s a chainette, so like a long string of chain stitches, with both metallic and non metallic. It comes in several sizes, so check out their website (http://www.rainbowgallery.com).
Kreinik’s thicker braids (16 & 32) would be all metallic cords, so they would have more sparkle, not too much more for some of the colors, and they would have that rounded look.
If I was going to use larger mesh PC, I would look around for cord for wrapping packages. You might find exactly this stuff.
HTH
Keep Stitching,
Janet

Okay, I love these pictures, Diane, and this sounds yummy to add to my list right before they take me to the crazy house for starting more than 37 new crafts in one month, but I have to say, I’m kind of disappointed.
There’s not one button.
