Hello there! I'm Sister Diane and I have two grand passions: making crafts and making media. That's what I write about here, and sometimes, I get all thoughtful about internet culture and creative small businesses. Thanks for stopping by! Would you like some tea?

Resource Roundup #8

Let’s see, what have I got for you this week:

First, not exactly crafty but very interesting, K. and I just attended the Ignite conference here in Portland last night. A lineup of 5-minute talks on all kinds of subjects, presented by locals. You can see a list of what we saw and heard here.

There are Ignite events in lots of other cities, and if yours is one of them, I recommend checking it out. Or, take a look at video from previous Ignite events. (The next Ignite here in PDX, btw, is February 19, 2009. Save the date.)

A nice local fundraising effort: a group of P-Town artists has collaborated on An Artful Agenda, which is a handmade planner that showcases a confluence of Portland’s best: art, do-it-yourself projects, and charity. The pages are hand-lettered, and it includes month-at-a-glance calendars, full-page artwork, themed notes pages, and U.S. and multicultural holidays.

Proceeds benefit the Northeast Portland Tool Library. You can buy an Artful Agenda online at Etsy.

Finally, if you like softies, check out Louise Elliot’s animal kits. Love the exuberant prints! These remind me so much of my favorite 60s and 70s craft books.
