Hey! The nice folks at Chronicle Books have sent me a Sock Knitting Kit to give away on this here blog. You can find out more about what’s in this kit over here.
Now, will you indulge me for a moment? Last time I had a giveaway here, it ended up getting listed on some “Free Sweepstakes” website, and I was inundated with entries.
Right, that’s the point, isn’t it?, you may be saying. Well, not exactly. I like to have giveaways here because I so appreciate you reading my blog, and it’s nice to be able to offer you a little gifty from time to time.
I have to say it: moderating two-word comments from folks who only stopped by for the freebie just isn’t part of the community experience of blogging for me.
So, here’s how I’d like to work this drawing. If you leave a comment on this post no later than Wednesday, 11/19 at noon PST, you’ll be entered to win the kit. In your comment, will you please tell me about how you plan to use it? Will you teach yourself sock knitting? Is it a gift for someone?
(A note: if you make an anonymous comment, you won’t be able to win, because I’ll have no way to reach you if you do! Please do leave at least your email address.)
I’ll choose a winner by random drawing on Thursday. Thanks for listening. And entering. And reading. And being so cool.

Congrats to Stephanie, who won the kit! I’m contacting you now for your shipping address, you big winner!

I would love to learn how to knit socks. I would definitely try to learn, and maybe make them as a gift for my children, or wear them myself.

I’m a longtime lurker who has never posted a comment, and I don’t usually enter these giveaways because I’m SUCH a beginning crafter and always figure someone else could better appreciate whatever the “prize” was than I could, but I would dearly love to win this!
I’m a beginning-level knitter — I can do stockinette stitch like nobody’s business, as long as I’m making a rectangle — and I have always wanted to learn to make socks! The idea of using THREE needles, with double points no less, scares the heck out of me but I was recently laid up with a sprained ankle (back on my feet now) and couldn’t stop thinking how awesome it would look to have a gorgeous hand-knitted sock peeking out of that horrible velcro boot I had to wear. I had no idea there were actual kits available to teach people how to make socks! So if I don’t win this one, er, I’ll probably buy one!

My mom had recently started knitting socks and loves it. I have yet to take the plunge because the whole heel turn intimidates me. I think this kit would be a lovely shove into the world of sock knitting :)

I can already knit, but I’ve been dying to learn how to do socks. They’d probably end up going to my best guy friend when done, as he has such a thing for socks… And I owe him something warm and fuzzy :)

I’ve done scarves and just finished my first blanket, but when it comes to socks I get a little scared. I don’t know why, but the task seems a little intimidating. I love socks- especially the big warm fuzzy ones. With a kit like this I’d have all the tools I need to start my own. Winning this would be the kick in the pants I need to make socks. Thanks for the opportunity!

This is a great blog! I am 3/4 of the way through my second knitting project ever! Unsurprisingly, a scarf…and I am thinking I need to teach myself how to do something other than straight lines!

I plan to use it to teach myself to make socks. I just bought a sock making book. So this is perfect timing. Thanks for giving us this chance.

i will use this sock kit to TAKE OVER THE WORLD!
kidding.
i’d actually use it to whip up a pair of socks for my fiance for christmas. i keep wanting to make him another pair, as the ones i’ve made him so far have been worn to the point of holes, but don’t have the money to buy more sock yarn before christmas is up. so this would be a great way to gift him with some warm toesies!
(and btw, i love you, love the blog, and hug my three kitties every day for you. they send you good kitty karma!)

I would be really happy to win this kit, because I never knitted socks. I´m a knitting beginner, I made some scarfs an cuffs before but I hesitated to try to knit socks.
The kit looks really good :)
I like your blog very much.

I love knitting socks and would like to try different patterns and try new yarn. Yes, yarn is always good.

I would use it to learn how to knit. So far I only crochet and sew.

Love your blog, as ever, and you’ve gotta love awesome giveaways like this! I just knit my first hat, and now that it’s chilly in the house, it’s sock time all the time — a fine time to learn.
Thanks for all you do!

Hi. I’m totally new to this blog (I just happened to find it in google reader’s recommended feeds for me, just in time for a giveaway!), but I loooooooovvvvvee crafty blogs! I knit and crochet, but I have never knit socks. I would love to learn to knit socks, but I am a little bit afraid of them… afraid that they will turn out terribly and it would be a waste of money for me (times are tight and I’ve committed to using up my yarn stash before buying more) and afraid that I will love it too much and have to be a sock knitter forever! But I will face my fears if I win the kit!!!

I have always told people I never knit socks because it would take too much time for me to knit them when I’m just going to go and put a hole in them right away. But actually the idea of knitting them kinda freaks me out. All those double points! Maybe this kit would help overcome my fear. I’ll have to check it out.

Okay, I just need to point out how awesome everyone’s reading comprehension is! (Yes, it has been one of those weeks where I have begun to doubt that anyone listens.. or reads details.. anymore. It frustrates the heck out of me! So, I am glad to see that after your request no one has given you a two word comment! Yay!)
If I won the kit I would use it to figure out how to finish the toes in socks… I’ve tried to knit a sock before, but can’t figure out how to finish off the darn toes!

Hey :) I have only started knitting again this year, and need things that are challenging for my skill level – I think socks would be perfect! They would probably be for me, my sister, or my sister in law. And I love your posts on plastic canvas!!! Keep doing them :)

Please don’t consider me for the drawing. I just want to be part of the fun. It would be great to have time to learn to knit socks but I don’t and I’m not even sure I have the patience! Congrats to the winner!

I would so LOVE to learn how to knit socks! I’m a successful crocheter, but I’ve always found knitting to be such a challenge and I can’t quite figure out why. I always see the coolest socks on knitting sites…I want to learn how to make these too! I think this kit would be a great start.
Thanks!
