The laaaaast bit of zine-making

in Holiday Crafts, Zines

Thought I’d share the end of the big zine project, since we’re wrapping up today. You know, we always come up with some crazy, labor-intensive embellishment idea that we kick ourselves for later.

(Like the year we set out to decorate each page with rubber stamps and stickers. Seemed like a great idea at the time.)

This year, we decided it would be fun to hand-cut a star out of each cover…

…and then splatter gold and silver paint lightly. (And this didn’t last beyond the first 40 covers. Too messy!)

And then we cut various wrapping papers to make endpapers. They look pretty, but we are kinda tired!

Pushkin’s role in all of this was purely supervisory.

  • This is so COOL! I want one! My dog will love it!

Oh, and I want three of those beautiful zines, stat!

wha? you cut out stars by HAND? no wonder pushkin knew better than to get involved. ;)
  • P.S. - it really does look like Pushkin needs to be doing a little more to earn his kibble, though - perhaps a gold pawprint on each zine?
  • Oooo . . . these look GREAT! I really admire that you and your sweetie are working together on something fun like this . . . Darren and I are making a book of old family photos for his family for Christmas this year, and it's fun (and challenging!) working on it together . . . somehow, though, I have a hard time imagining us doing it every year . . . though it might be fun to do a family recipe book next year . . . eek! Is this how it happens?!
  • So much work!!! Your very pretty cat has the best take on the issue - look pretty, sleep and let everyone else do the work (LOL).

Cut-out stars? Have my constant FaceBook photos of paper cuttings made you think about wielding very sharp knives? ;-) They look fabulous!

Dang, I'm tired just reading about all that! And you know you've been working hard if even the supervisor is exhausted. Take a well deserved break now, maybe with that wine/champagne/Martinelli's bottle there in the middle photo, there?

this is gorgeous! is this just a zine for friends, or...?

at any rate, it's been awesome watching your updates on twitter. :-)
  • Ooooh!! Diane, you know how I want one! :-D Will I be able to order one via your Etsy shop? If you're saving them for close friends and family, I absolutely understand, of course. I'm just such a fan of your zines!

I just went to "Expozine" today, and I couldn't help but think of your. :-)
