Okay… here’s a crazy thing. I made myself a plastic canvas case for my iPod Touch. I was really happy with the result, too – I think this pattern is heavily influenced by the fab striped shirts worn on Freaks and Geeks. It speaks to my 70′s-grown soul. (And Sarah is the coolest for introducing me to F&G. But I digress…)

I had originally lined it with some thick acrylic felt, and that made the iPod fit nice and snug. “Yay,” I thought, and settled it into its new case for the night.
Next morning, my iPod was dead! Huh?
We were able to resurrect the iPod, and I ripped the felt liner out of the case. Left the iPod in there the next night, and it was working fine in the morning.

So I’m wondering, was the case too tight with the lining, pressing buttons it shouldn’t have? Or, is there some weird interaction of acrylic felt and iPod screen that wreaked havoc?
I can’t leave the thing unlined – who wants to look at the back of my stitches?! I’ve got a scrap of felted wool sweater I’m going to try next….

It is bautifull, really nice colours.

Hm, that is weird. I have my iPod touch in a very snug case, and have never had a problem with it. My case is lined in lens wipes, if that makes a difference.

Oooooh!
No clue on the why of the dead iPod, but I am in *love* with this case. The colors rock my world, and having something as tech-heavy as an iPod Touch in PC … just flippin’ beautiful. :)

That is really pretty. How did you get the flip top?

I bet it was a coincidence. Is it really new? Maybe the battery couldn’t hold as much juice at first and ran down. On the other hand, maybe if the felt had little fibers sticking out, they crawled up inside some orifice and that’s what did it. On the other hand, maybe the ‘iTouch’ just doesn’t want to be ‘felt up’.
hahAAHAHAH!!!
i have no idea, Diane.
acrylic is evil, therefore it killed your thing. Less evil things will work fine. But that may be just my opinion of the world.

Hehehe – your Friends are funny — and informed! I was thinking your new-fangled contraption just can’t do old-school acrylic.
So – the question begs, do you remember SJP on Square Pegs with John Malkevich?

that is so awesome, Diane!!
I wonder if the felt lining made it too hot or something, and ran the battery down… ?
ps: I love F&G! we have the dvd set if you ever want to see the bonus stuff.

That is soooooooo F&Gs!!! It looks like something Sam should be wearing. I wonder if the felt lining, combined with the yarn made your iPod too hot, so it turned itself off? Because those batteries (if it’s anything like my touchscreen phone) produce quite a bit of heat. But, seriously, your case is freaking (and geeking–ha!) awesome!

There are a couple of reasons why the felt may have caused a problem. One, the heat. The snug fit of the felt and its heat-absorbing qualities of it and the crafted PC likely did not let the iPhone cool off when it was not in use, causing it to shut off. Also, any felted material is not a wise choice because the little fibers on the felt can become lodged in the crevices and inputs of the iPhone. They then can make their way into the casing of the iPhone and totally mess it up. This is why it is NEVER a good idea to store a laptop in a felt case (even though there are so many cute ones out there!). It’s just not worth the risk. It would suggest lining it with a smoother fabric – something with little to no nap and would allow the iPhone a bit of space to cool off.

and by iPhone, I meant iPod. That will teach me to give tech advice while drinking beer.

That case is so beautiful, but it doesn’t look like an ipod going in there, it looks like an iphone. ?? Those things are very sensitive.

static? heat? fainting from being surrounded by the coolness?
