Hello there! I'm Sister Diane and I have two grand passions: making crafts and making media. That's what I write about here, and sometimes, I get all thoughtful about internet culture and creative small businesses. Thanks for stopping by! Would you like some tea?

CRAFT 10 Has Landed!

The new issue of CRAFT is out, and as always, it’s crazy-packed with good things. The theme for this issue is celebration, and what a fitting cover model! Amy Sedaris also contributed a how-to for an ice cream-filled and extravagantly-frosted angel food cake. Plus, I want that dress.

As always, the challenge is to convey to you just how diverse the projects in this issue are. So I’ll just show a few favorites, and tell you about a few others. I loved Brookelynn Morris’ simple bent wire and jelly jar lanterns – great for festooning your patio.

Speaking of festooning, Linda Permann has a how-to for making pretty stamped fabric party flags.

Here’s Sarah Scheffel’s beautiful fruit sushi. And as a complement, Alex Mountjoy has a roundup of Basic Bar Essentials and six interesting cocktail recipes.

On a slightly more technical note, Gerry Arrington and Aidan Mechan’s article on how to build patterns from simple shapes is fascinating – and imagine all the crafty ways you can use a custom pattern!

I’m all ready to make some of Julie Sloane’s lovely and simple gum paste flowers. Oh, those cute, Spring-y cupcakes!

And check out these cool plates by Mark Montano! They incorporate comic-book images, nylon mesh, and spray paint. Dang!

Lesley Patterson-Marx also has a tutorial for a beautiful handmade cloth-bound wedding album.

Anyway – before I stop gushing, I’ll share my two bits in this issue:

Look Inside >>
Volume 10

I have a how-to for making your own flavored bitters! (Click on that widget and take a closer look.) And also, a piece about planning crafty parties. Woo!

Did you know that CRAFT has lowered its cover price? It used to be $15.00, now it’s $9.99. But subscribing is still the best deal – not to mention, the best way to support a super-rad magazine like this that really reflects our community.
