Eeps, sorry about the radio silence there. K. and I have both been sick, and many things got derailed.
Here’s something we’ve been working on in between long sleeps and consuming meds: a puppet theater for K’s nephew’s birthday.

It began life, as so many good kid-things do, as a large cardboard box. K. did a little surgery on it.

We covered all the graphics with two layers of duct tape. As you’ll see, I became way enamored with duct tape during this project.

One of the funnest things about collaborating with K. is that he has a superb engineering mind. I made the curtains, but he figured out how to rig a simple pulley-type mechanism so you can open and close them from the inside. Very theater-like.

Here’s a view from the top: there’s an inner curtain, so Logan can reach under it to operate the puppets, while remaining invisible. The inner curtain is sheer, so he’ll be able to see the puppets (and audience) through it.

More K. genius: he needed holders for that inner curtain that would suspend it at an angle. So he cut the necks off two plastic bottles and partially melted them with a candle to create the proper angle. Mc-freakin’-Gyver.

I figured out a way to make the lettering from duct tape, too – which is pretty dang exciting for future projects.

Duct tape also forms the edging. Loves me some duct tape.
We’re making puppets, as you can see up top there, by printing some of Logan’s favorite characters and affixing them to cardboard, with a chopstick handle. I have the rest of the Scooby gang and some super heroes to finish today – ACK!

Awesome! This is right up my alley! I have had plans afoot for a puppet theatre for a while, but not got around to it yet. I like the duct tape and exacto for the lettering and I like the bottle neck idea too! We currently have a large cardboard rocket ship taking up 90% of the livingroom, so once that has died and gone to the big recycling bin in the sky then I’ll get stuck in with a puppet theatre! Thank you for taking the time to post this.

ok, here’s the deal:
if anyone does not scroll down far enough, they don’t see your podcast index, but let me just tell you. there, I said it.
All who are listening to the sound of my voice, scroll down, click on the podcast index link to the right, and listen to each and every podcast while you are crafting or doing your job. You will NOT regret it. Well, you might regreat it if your company won’t allow you to listen and you get caught and you get a warning, then three demerits, and then a pink slip, but as far as the content of the podcasts.. you’ll LOVE them!
now I have to start the polymer clay one over again because I’ve been talking through the whole thing.
I hope my boss doesn’t come in.

Logan is going to FLIP OUT when he sees this. Better give it to him last in the gift exchange or no one else will have a chance to give their gifts. Really amazing and love to see the collaboration. Where do I find a McGuyver of my own?

No wonder you two have been under the weather lately. Way too much kinetic energy flying around your home for any human to withstand for long!
Puppet Theater is going to totally blow Logan’s mind! I hope we will get to see a show! I imagine Katin is already working on scripts!

Brilliant!! Now comes the part where I ask if you and K want to be my Aunt and Uncle . . . . of course I’m sure you’re getting requests from all over the interwebs . . . I don’t know, maybe some sort of Aunt and Uncle for hire thing wouldn’t be out of the question . . .
