Hello there! I'm Diane and I have two grand passions: making crafts and making media. That's what I write about here, and sometimes, I get all thoughtful about internet culture and creative small businesses. Thanks for stopping by! Would you like some tea?

It all came in the post

I’m so behind on sharing all the great mail I’ve been getting lately! Here’s a heaping helping..

The lovely Niku sent this postcard around Valentine’s Day. How wonderful is that image? Best part is, it’s printed on the back of a California Pizza Kitchen box. She makes such great stuff.

She also sent some dandy Halloween bits and bobs. I’m totally making some cards from those stamps when the time comes.

I also love this zine about the Congress Bridge Bats – one of my favorite things about Austin. (Haven’t heard of this? Austin is home to the largest urban bat colony in North America. Seeing them come out at dusk is utterly amazing.)

I’m also digging my latest Craft Leftovers Monthly – this one has a beautiful little kit for making embroidered linen bookmarks.

In case I haven’t mentioned it, Kristin’s now offering the CL zine on its own as well as part of the Monthly. I love this zine – it always has a great recipe, a craft project, and tons of charm.

This was a bonus in my Monthly this time – these cards are printed with instructions for weaving on a cardboard loom. But, see how they’re also marked with those lines at the top and bottom? You can make slits at those lines, and then string each of the cards up as a little loom. Then you can weave your own ATC’s! I love how multi-tasking that is.

This is the brainchild of Su at TangleCrafts. She’s also doing a cool monthly subscription program: the DIY Weaving Club.

And as if all that weren’t enough, the latest issue of Mixtape arrived yesterday! What a stellar zine this is – and growing! This is the first issue that’s all full-color. And it’s gorgeous.

We have articles on making time for craft, roller derby, Blythe, The Cupcake Revolution, knitted flowers, greening your office, and a review of Knitting for Good, and a profile of lunchbox collector Kevin Rej, among others.

Whew! And that’s not all the mail. But we’ll save some for another post.
