I had such a grand day off with Susan and Pearl yesterday. Among many other fun things, we stopped in at Vintage Pink, and saw this oh-so-amzing necktie quilt.

Oh, for the vast stores of time and neckties needed to make one of these! There are novelty ties scattered in among the stripes and solids, so here and there you can see a pheasant, or some woodgrain, or a stack of books. The whole thing is backed with red velveteen.

…And then, this mitered edging really makes the whole design. It’s made in a sateen fabric to match the ties. Brilliant.

Another fun bit of our day: we made a whole bunch of terrariums, using Jenny’s great tutorial on CRAFT. So easy, and so satisfying. Here, you can see the awesome tiki people Susan found for me at an estate sale. So today, while it’s grey and raining in Portland, I can enjoy my own little desktop tiki garden.
(You can see all the cute terrariums we made in Susan’s great Flickr set.)
Also yesterday, a trip to the almighty Uwajimaya. But I’ll show you my score from there later. Days off are great! I should try them more often.

wow, yesterday was awesome! I just love my terrariums and my Uwajimaya finds. I just emptied most of a jar of tomato sauce into another container to get at the tempting could-be-a-terrarium-kit jar :)
