Hello there! I'm Sister Diane and I have two grand passions: making crafts and making media. That's what I write about here, and sometimes, I get all thoughtful about internet culture and creative small businesses. Thanks for stopping by! Would you like some tea?

  • Put my name in the pot. I figure that the more of these I enter, the better my chances will be. I used to sew a lot of clothing. My favorite was an empire-waist, long-sleeved, long dress. It was totally cute and I made it in 3 or 4 different fabrics. :o)

OOPS! Forgot the answer to the question. I made an advent calendar for my daughter when she was 2. Twenty-seven years later, both she and her brother look for it when they come home. It required much hand sewing. Each pocket had beaded holly leaves and inside were individual ornaments of varying degrees of detail. My husband told me no one would ever appreciate the time I spent, but he was so wrong!

  • The project I am most proud of was an off white Irirsh linen suit I made for my first husband which he wore to his second wedding. Turned out great and I was so proud to see it in their wedding pictures.

  • My favorite TWO sewing projects were my very first dress I made in 4th grade, at home, by myself. And then 15 years later, my other favorite was my wedding dress.

My favorite sewing project would be a three piece brown, double knit suit that I made for my Dad in the seventies! I want to make the trapeze dress in Weekend Sewing.

  • My first quilt ever – a baby quilt for my newborn daughter :)

  • Oh, I’ve been a looking at this book!

My favorite sewing project has been my minki dot and flannel 9 patch baby quilt that I’ve done on my singer featherweight for my youngest child. She’s 3 now, and she loves the little baby quilt.

Not that you asked, but my 2nd favorite, was my first quilt, a t-shirt quilt of my 2nd oldest’s daughter’s dance shirts! Quite mind boggling at the time!

    Love to win!

  • My favorite sewing project so far is my apron because it’s the first thing that actually came out right :)

  • Probably my favourite sewing project is the long-term hexagon quilt I am currently hand piecing! I’ve been working on it since 2005, but I’m hoping it will be finished in time for the guild exhibition in August 2010. I love the colours, the fabrics, and the process of putting the pieces together by hand. So grounding.

When I was about 16, I stitched up a pair of shorts in the “Hobie” style that was so popular then. I embroidered a “PG” on the hem which stood for “Pat’s Girl” (I had the cutest boyfriend named Pat at the time!) Where has the time gone??

For senior prom my girlfriend and I sewed our prom dresses. Mine was red with rhinestones and her’s white with feather trim. Many years ago and I don’t know what happened to the dress. Great fun and great memories.

2 favorite projects: one, a bag I made inspired by the Lightning Bugs’ goldfish fabric [the one with the goldfish in bags] and patchwork. It’s still my favorite bag ever and I’m always getting compliments on it. Two, a dog-themed quilt I made my ex-boyfriend [we were still together at the time]. It’s randomly pieced and bright and cheerful. My mom helped me hand quilt it, and when I broke up with him she asked me, “I know what you’re going to say, but can we ask for the quilt back?” “Mom – NO!” I guess I know what I should make her for her birthday …

About 20 years ago I inherited my grandmother’s down-filled chair and ottoman. It was ugly on the outside but had good bones.

I had never done anything but basic sewing, but I decided to sew slipcovers for the chair and ottoman. They were beautiful! It was my favorite reading chair. When it started to fall apart, literally (the chair, not the slipcover), I waited months before having it carted to the trash. I was so proud of my work!

  • My favorite sewing project of all time was a skirt that my mom and I made when I was in high school. It was the 80′s and the skirt was white knit ribbing around the waist, and a gathered woven cotton fabric for the skirt. You sewed on snaps around the hem, and you could snap the bottom of the skirt up into where the ribbing area ended to make a bubble skirt. I chose this white fabric with primary colored dinosaurs – suitable for curtains in a little boy’s room. I loved it, but every one at school saw it and thought I was nuts. I didn’t care!

Not sure if I am too late or not, but I will try!
It is hard to pick a favorite: my favorite sewing projects are ones where I know I am making the perfect gift for someone. It feels great to give someone a gift; even better when you made it!

While I have been sewing since my grandmothers taught me, my favorite project is something I just finishing. After I shopped with my daughter at several stores for her wedding dress, she ended up saying she would rather have me make her dress than buy any she had tried. She knew the fabric and style she wanted so my dummy is decked in silk duponi dress and and beaded lace shrug right now.

My favorite sewing project is my scary bunny. I thought I could just jump into making a softie by looking at a picture. grant it I never sewing anything since home ec class in middle school. My husband then laughed at me and carried the bunny around the house. It’s on our bedroom night stand still. This bunny was a jumping point for me to learn how to sew. I’ve been sewing for about 7 months now when I can find the spare moment.
