OMG. My Necktie Quilt.

I’m recovering today from the most amazing crafty weekend ever. Handmade Nation premiered in Portland, which created a great opportunity for a lot of crafty internet pals to come to town and play.

I’ll write more about all this soon, but for today, wanted to share this wondrous fact: the necktie quilt I was coveting a couple weeks agonecktie quilt I was coveting a couple weeks ago is all mine!

This is due to the kindness of lovely friends: Susan was with me when I saw the quilt, and promptly emailed Sarah, Rachel, Leethal, Jen, and Michaela. They chipped in, and then surprised me this weekend. I was blown away – the thought of that moment still makes me forget to breathe.

It’s a blessing to have such thoughtful, supportive friends. And it’s a joy to have gotten some all-together time. Thank you, ladies!

I’m looking forward to giving my new baby some TLC. The tie squares are backed with muslin squares, which are then sewn together – so it would be very easy to make some new blocks to swap out.

Or, I could add some necktie appliques over the rips. So hard to decide. And so awesome to have the decision to make!

  • um ok this is just too awesome for words! it's soooo perfect for you. can't wait to see how you mend it. :)
  • If there is any one person on this earth who should have this quilt, it is you! You are, after all, the neck tie godess!
  • That is so sweet. It reminds me of when Tangereen was in kindergarten and the classroom auction project was a quilt made using children's artwork. The parents who worked on it secretly made a second, identical quilt, which they presented to the teacher after the "real" quilt had been auctioned off. It was such a surprise for her, you could tell she would never forget that moment.
  • I share your joy! That is fabulous. What lovely friends. :)
  • This is a FANTASTIC story. Congrats to you! I didn't start at the beginning because I was looking at the quilt and I thought you made it, and I got confused and sent you a wacky email. But now I see what happened! Are they the best friends?!

I had a dream about you, that you were laughing and talking with bunches of friends. No kidding. That's all that I remember about the dream, that you were just smiling and talking and everyone was all around a table. Is that freaking weird? And I haven't been here for a week!
  • aww!! Your friends rock. That quilt has YOU written all over it. It was meant to be!

squee! I think some trade out and some applique is in order, myself. I mean, when you've already got the cow, you can have the milk, too.
