So, Crafty by Nature month continues over at CraftStylish. Here are a couple tutorials I’ve done over there recently:

First, these restyled shoes, which were born when I was making loads of kanzashi for my publisher. I ended up with a pile of tiny fabric scraps that looked so pretty all jumbled together, but were way too small to use in any sewing project.
So I busted out some Fabric Mod Podge and dressed up these canvas tennies. I’m also thinking about customizing a canvas tote this way – it’s super easy.

And then, if you remember this project from a while back, here is that promised tutorial for magazine reeds! I’m addicted to these things – there is so much gorgeous possibility in combining colors and creating textures.
This tutorial involves covering a box lid, but you can cover anything with reeds. Like picture frames, for example:

Yes, that’s me – apparently I had an Alfred E. Neuman phase as a kid.

Those tennies are so cute! You could totally make a whole set of them to match your summer wardrobe – cheap! And how about cutting out motifs (flowers, peacocks, etc) from fabric and decoupaging them on?! Too cool. :)

love the reed box! :D thanks for the tutorial. Going to have to save some magazines and try this. (the link has an extra ht before http)

Ok now my brain is exploding with ideas!
Love that you saved the scraps from the Kanzashi flowers – the shoes are fabulous and can’t wait to see the matching tote! So much to be done with these and fabric Mod-podge. GOT to get some of that. Like I said – mind is exploding!
The reed frames made me smile. My beautiful daughter popping up so unexpectedly on the screen!
So much can be done with these magazine reeds – and so far everything I’ve seen you do looks really great. This is way beyond the magazine beads I used to make with Grammie when I was little.

I have been hanging out for the magazine reeds tutorial, I actually have a few ideas for using those little guys! Thanks so much.

You are just so smart and crafty! I have a couple pair of tennies that could use some decorating. And I didn’t know there was fabric Modge Podge either. Thanks. Lynn
