Hello there! I'm Sister Diane and I have two grand passions: making crafts and making media. That's what I write about here, and sometimes, I get all thoughtful about internet culture and creative small businesses. Thanks for stopping by! Would you like some tea?

Made stuff, Mom stuff

Happy Friday! A couple cool things happened around the webby-neighborhood today:

This week’s tutorial went up at CraftStylish. Since it’s Weddings & Celebrations month over there, I made these cute party favor baskets from stiffened fabric. They’re super easy to make (just need lots of drying time) and are fun table decorations.

And then, I was honored that Rachel included my Mom and I in a CRAFT blog series on crafters and their mothers. The piece is here, and you can read the rest of the series here and here.

(Here we are, tying a quilt for my great grandmother, circa 1980. I made that crazy sweatshirt – hand-sewed on all that braided trim, Wish you could see the whole design, as it’s truly weird.)

  • That is, perhaps, one of my very favorite pictures I’ve ever seen of you.

  • This is so cute I can’t even stand it!

  • My mother owned a pair of glasses identical to the ones your mother has on in this picture! Mom’s always had flecks of paint or cake frosting on them, depending on what she was creating at the moment.

  • I didn’t realize it until you pointed out the sweatshirt you made that this photo is really a shining example of the fact that the “crafting” I did , while you were growing up, was all utilitarian! I made the blouse I am wearing and the drapery and roman shade in the background. Thank goodness, you ventured out into “creating for the sake of creating” and brought me with you!

Love the basket favors. What is so cool is that brides can actually make them in fabrics to reflect their chosen colors. And they can be made in any size. The ones shown are perfect for table favors, but if they were made a little bigger, guests could actually refill them at the “candy table” -( very popular at weddings now).

  • I absolutely gasped with glee when I saw Rachel’s story up on CRAFT. That photo! Your hair is SO LONG. You look like Marsha Brady – only way cooler.
