I’m in deep prep mode for Maker Faire, so we’re light on posts around here at the moment. But I did want to share these absolutely fantastic zines I just got from Su Mwamba.
Su is a weaver, and she wants you to give it a try as well. Her ongoing zine, Telaic Fantasy, is about all things weaving, but with the simplest of tools and minimal environmental impact. The zine is packed with tips and techniques, spinning and weaving references in fables and fairy tales, and book and music reviews.
She also created the DIY Weaving club – but I’ll get to that in a moment. Let’s talk about Telaic Fantasy first!

I am a sucker for zines that have cool things bound into them. Here, we have an envelope bound in, which contains an extra little zine! OMG!
And in the back of the zine, the other side of the envelope contains cardstock blanks for you to make your own woven Artist Trading Cards.

Su offers up a beautiful gallery of her own woven ATCs, with notes on how she made them. AND, there’s an inserted sheet of printed ATC backs, which you can glue to your cards and fill in with your name and contact info.

Seriously – this is such beautiful design and print quality. I’m sending Su a pack of my zines, but they are nowhere compared to this stuff.

Now, take a look at the DIY Weaving Club Membership Book! Look at my personalized membership card, which lives in its own little envelope! (You can be a member too, by the way.)
(It’s not finished, though – I’ll need to cut a same-size card, weave it, and then glue it to this one. THAT’s a proper Weaving Club membership card.

The book then has loads of suggestions for everyday materials you can repurpose for weaving.

…And tools! There are labels to paste to your weaving projects. And, see that graph-paper stuff on the left-hand page? Those are guides for cutting slits in your weaving cardboards.

As it that weren’t enough head-exploding zine awesomeness, Su also sent these – one is a primer on making Morsbags, and the other is about super-creative ways to repurpose waste paper. Including, making small zines like this one.
Take a look at Su’s website, where she has all kinds of great writing and free projects. Or, visit her on Etsy and see her weaving work and kits.

love, love, love it.
love, love, love it.
What “Taueret said! 10 times!
And thanks so much for the link to Morsebags. Shocking but compelling reasons to avoid plastic bags and “bring your own”.

Thanks. I needed a reminder that paper media can be so much cooler than electronic.
