Hello there! I'm Sister Diane and I have two grand passions: making crafts and making media. That's what I write about here, and sometimes, I get all thoughtful about internet culture and creative small businesses. Thanks for stopping by! Would you like some tea?

Hooray for Veggies! (oh, and Fruits)

Finally, we’ve arrived at Farmer’s Market Season here in the Northwest! (Well, okay, it actually started three weeks ago – we’ve been busy.)

The Beaverton market was unbelievably packed this morning – as it always is early in the season. We Portlanders loooove our fresh produce, and there’s always a ton of pent-up demand in May. It’s shoulder to shoulder and keep your elbows in. Later on in the Summer, things will get more casual.

In addition to the Early Red strawberries above, we got some of this beautiful asparagus – because how could you look at this display and not buy some?

…And some tasty little potatoes for roasting.

…And fava beans! I’m terribly excited – I’ve been waiting all year to make this recipe again. If you’ve ever wondered what to do with a fava, do that.

Anyway, as with last year, I’ve made a Flickr set for all my obsessive market photographs. Go check it out if you like.

And now excuse me. I have cooking to do.
