Okay, so WHEW. Maker Faire was the most amazing experience, and totally impossible to capture in a single blog post.
I just uploaded all my photos to this Flickr set, which will give you a tiny window into the scope of glorious geekery. And I missed a ton of the cool things that were going on, so be sure to check out others’ pictures wherever you can.
The best part of the show, though, was closer to home: meeting internet-friends like Kristin, Natalie, Marie, Alexa, Deb, Jessica, Nicole, Janet, Becky, Kelly & Shayne, Anne, and Brookelyn (who’s up there teaching people to needle-felt), in person for the first time. And seeing Rachel, Kathy, Michaela, Jeff, Jennifer, Sarah, Moxie, and Cathy – an all-too-rare treat.
It must be said: I loved the Maker Faire experience so much more than the CHA experience. While it was fascinating seeing the business side of crafting at CHA, it was electrifying to see so much human creativity in action at Maker Faire.
And the atmosphere of giddy joy in a space where everyone’s a geek, and therefore everyone’s a rock star – that’s something I wish I could dwell in always.
I’m still synthesizing my thoughts on the weekend, and soon will be ploughing into all the audio I recorded. It’s likely you’ll hear a lot about Maker Faire here in the coming weeks.
In the meantime, enjoy the photos while I heal up my feet and get through all this email!
Oh – and start making plans to meet me there in 2010.

Me, again. Those robots remind me of when I got to the Science Fiction world convention. Geekery fer sher. It’s so much fun, but it’s not crafty like this! No way! Well, I could make Furry costumes, but I know what they do in them.

It was nice meeting you too! I wish we were able to talk longer. When I came back to the booth, I think you were interviewing Deb and I didn’t want to disturb you. Next time we’ll have to plan to meet up.

That sign is SO awesome. Tesla coils and rocket launches, what’s not to love? Glad you had a good time, it sounds like a blast. I look forward to hearing more about what you saw and learnt.
